This paper surveys the prominent books that discuss the political circumstances that caused the commercialization of nuclear energy to ground to a standstill in the 1980s.  Today the citizens of the United States question Washington policymakers about America's continuing reliance on foreign sources of hydrocarbons.  The debate once again focuses on the construction of more nuclear plants to augment the over one hundred plants now in existence in the United States.
